About me

Hello, and welcome to my page!

I’m sure you’d like to know a little bit about your photographer before we meet, so let me introduce myself: My name is Kimberly Hawkins, owner and founder of Kimmy’s Captures. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m passionate about photography, and I’ve been that way for a long time!

Ever since I was born, photography has been part of my life. My mother had four children, and she must have taken thousands of pictures of us! I remember that she used to get ideas for poses from magazines and Simplicity pattern catalogs. Remember those? Even without access to digital cameras, editing software, YouTube (for skill-growing), or Pinterest (for idea-getting), my mother managed to take some extremely interesting pictures of us kids. Looking back through old photos, I was always flooded with treasured stories and emotions of days gone by: birthday parties, holidays, celebrations, bench-mark events, vacations, and last (but certainly not least), day-to-day interactions with the people in our lives and the world around us.

And I don’t mean to sound cliche, but it’s so true that a single picture is worth a thousand words! I could tell you about my childhood, or I could SHOW you. Remember that cliches are overused because they’re so damn true.

Well, I guess the photography bug must be contagious because I picked up my first camera around age 14, and I’ve been capturing my own memories ever since! I’ve had a camera by my side almost continually since then. In the beginning, my photos consisted mostly of scenes from my own life. But as I gained experience, I began to branch out more and more. When my own children came along, I knew for sure that I wanted to leave them with the same legacy that my mother left for me. I wanted their childhood to be well-documented, their personalities and vigor to be frozen in time, recaptured, remembered, and re-lived at a moment’s notice.

When I was 14, I knew next to nothing about being a photographer, but I sure knew how to strike a pose! Fast forward a couple of years (or decades...ahem), and I find myself forever taking pictures of my own children, and my siblings’ children, and my friends’ children, and...well, you get the idea. I’ve photographed everything from weddings and landscapes to the Atlantic ocean in Mexico. I love to travel and take pictures of my adventures, so it goes without saying that travel photography is one of my favorite forms of photography.

What’s my favorite? Well, I have a passion for people. For the last decade, I’ve been a Licensed Practical Nurse, and not only has it been my job to care for my patients, but it has been my “joie de vivre.” I love my career and my patients dearly. In fact, I enjoy getting to know all sorts of people and all of their startling uniqueness, so I guess it stands to reason that I love photographing them as well. Over the years, I’ve worked with individuals, couples, families, and even pets, but my heart lies in preserving the moments that pass us by all too quickly - the moments that we often take for granted. I think that’s why kids and newborns are my favorite subjects.

My own children continue to be my biggest inspiration, and I enjoy capturing their specific personalities and their beautiful little faces as they grow and mature into unique individuals. Because of them, I have poured every fiber of my being into becoming the best photographer I can possibly be. I have enjoyed the process so much that it has become my earnest desire to pass along some of my passion, creativity, and skill to other families! That’s exactly why I started Kimmy’s Captures.

My story is long, but my goal is simple: to create beautiful, timeless images, memories that my clients will enjoy for the rest of their lives.

(Now that you know a little bit about me, drop me a line. What are your photo session goals? What specific personality trait or memory would you like me to capture for you? I’d love to know more about you and why you landed on my page today. I’d love to help you make those dreams a reality!)
